1. instructor of initiates: somebody who instructs candidates for initiation into sacred mysteries

2. somebody spreading mystical doctrines: a believer in and disseminator of mystical doctrines

[Mid-16th century. Directly or via French< Latin mystagogus< Greek mustagōgos 'leader of candidates for initiation' < mustēs 'initiated person' (see mystery1)]
