Windows Live® Search Results Mikhail Artsybashev (1878-1927), Russian novelist, born in Ukraine. Mikhail Petrovich Artsybashev’s series of short stories, begun in 1901, dramatize Russian revolutionary movements. His major work, the macabre, erotic novel Sanin (1907; trans. 1915), achieved sensational but short-lived acclaim. In 1921 Mikhail Artsybashev's works were banned, branded immoral by conservative critics, and he was exiled from the Soviet Union. His other writings include the novel The Breaking Point (1912; trans. 1915) and the play War (1917; trans. 1918).
