Ligurian Sea, arm of the Mediterranean Sea, southern Europe, between the islands of Corsica and Elba and the Riviera coasts of north-western Italy and Monaco. Genoa, La Spezia, and Leghorn (Livorno) are major ports on the Ligurian Sea, which is linked with the Tyrrhenian Sea, to the south-east. The Gulf of Genoa, along the Italian coast, is a northern section of the Ligurian Sea.
