Charles III of the Holy Roman Empire, called The Fat (839-888), Holy Roman Emperor (881-887), King of the East Franks, or Germans (876-887), and, as Charles II, King of the West Franks, or French (884-887). He was the son of Emperor Louis II and the great-grandson of Charlemagne. Charles was deposed from his thrones in 887 by his nephew, Arnulf, Duke of Carinthia. His deposition marked the dissolution of the Frankish Empire.
