Windows Live® Search Results Adolf Bastian (1826-1905), German ethnologist, born in Bremen, and educated at the universities of Berlin, Heidelberg, and Prague. After completing his formal education in 1850, he travelled through Asia, Africa, Australia, and North and South America, and in 1860 published Der Mensch in der Geschichte (Man in History), an anthropological study. A prolific writer, he published nearly 60 works emphasizing the importance of psychology in interpreting cultural history and contributing to the comparative study of different cultures.
