The largest lake of south-eastern Asia, it is fed by numerous streams; it drains by the Sab River west to the Mekong River. During the wet monsoon season of June to November, the high waters of the Mekong reverse the flow of the Sab River and increase the size of the lake from about 2,590 to 10,360 sq km (1,000 to 4,000 sq mi). Fishing is important on the lake.
