Tatry, also Tatra, mountain range, central Europe, the highest range of the Carpathian Mountains, extending along the border between Poland and Slovakia. The High Tatry, lying north of the Váh River valley, rise to a maximum elevation of 2,655 m (8,711 ft) on Mount Gerlach in Slovakia. The Low Tatry, to the south, rise to 2,043 m (6,703 ft) on Ďumbier. The range's lower slopes are clad in pine forests. The scenic mountains are a year-round recreation area and contain national parks of both Poland and Slovakia.
