P. D. James

Dame P. D. James is an English writer of detective stories. Her most famous character is Detective Inspector Adam Dalgliesh, who, unusually, is a poet as well as a policeman. Many of James’s books have been televised. She was made a Baroness in 1991 for her life’s work as a civil servant and governor of the British Broadcasting Corporation.
