Rabbi Guetz, pictured here, is the rabbi in charge of the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem. Rabbi, in Aramaic and Hebrew, means “my teacher”. In the rabbinical tradition, such teachers were figures who could interpret and teach the Torah, both in its written form and its oral form or Mishnah (“that which is learned or memorized”). Modern rabbis fulfil more of a preaching and pastoral role.
