R.E.M.

R.E.M.
American rock-music band R.E.M. formed in 1980 with (pictured left to right) guitarist Peter Buck, singer Michael Stipe, bassist Mike Mills, and drummer Bill Berry. The band first gained attention by attracting college audiences exposed to the music through independent radio stations, which played non-commercial songs. Credited with helping to invent the so-called alternative style of rock during the 1980s, R.E.M. has been hailed by many critics as one of the most innovative bands in the history of rock music.
