Jean-Luc Godard

The films of the French director Jean-Luc Godard, a key member of the nouvelle vague (New Wave) movement, marked a radical departure from established cinematic conventions. In his films he displayed such inventive techniques as jump cuts (jarring edits that deliberately break continuity), handheld camera work, allusions to other films, the blurring of the distinction between fiction and reality, and improvised storylines and dialogue.
