| The Black Forest is a wooded region in the mountains of south-western Germany. Its name derives from the large stands of fir trees that are found on its upper slopes. Although the area is a favourite spot for recreational activities such as hiking, air pollution has caused major problems. It is estimated that more than half the trees in the Black Forest have been damaged as a result of acid rain. | ||||||
